A forward-thinking group of optometrists founded VSP in September of 1955 in Oakland, California. Today, our headquarters are in Rancho Cordova, a suburb of Sacramento, California. For more than half a century we’ve been a trusted source in eyecare wellness benefits.

VSP has contracts with 29,000 clients, including more than 100 health plans. In addition, we contract with just over 50 percent of the companies on the 2007 Fortune 500 list and Fortune Magazine’s 2007 “Best Companies to Work For,” that provide a fully insured vision benefit.

In addition to our own direct sales force, we also sell our vision plans through a network of national brokers. We work with more than 16,000 brokers and consultants, including independents, general agents and national brokerage firms. We’re committed to providing plans and services that fit both our brokers’ and their clients’ needs.

Doctors

We have a network of more than 24,000 private practice doctors, located in rural and metropolitan areas throughout the nation. Our doctor network is so comprehensive that Americans have a choice of two VSP doctors within 2.1 miles in urban and suburban neighborhoods and within 8.8 miles in rural areas. What’s more, our doctors provide both eye exams and eyewear, making them a convenient "one-stop" means of obtaining eyecare benefits.

Employees

We are pleased to have approximately 2,000 employees working for the VSP Family of Companies, including VSP Vision Care, VSP Labs and Legends 4.0, Altair Eyewear and Eyefinity.

VSP Vision Care. Although we have offices throughout the nation, we’re based in Rancho Cordova, California. Our managed care business provides vision care to more than 52 million members nationwide. Our exclusive network of private-practice doctors is more than 24,000 strong.

VSP Labs and Legends 4.0. We have labs in California, Ohio and Texas. That’s why we lead the industry in adopting new technologies and production processes, service turnarounds and logistics. These labs are also where we process a substantial amount of VSP Vision Care lab orders.

Altair Eyewear. In 1993, we launched a company created to exclusively support independent eyecare professionals, while providing a unique service and delivery system that enhances the profitability of private practices.

Eyefinity. Since 2000, we’ve connected private-practice doctor’s offices to the optometric industry through the Internet. We make submitting claims, purchasing products, creating Web sites and getting practice improvement tips as easy as possible.
